The Atlanta Swing Orchestra originally started from a group of musicians in the Atlanta Lawyers Orchestra who decided that they wanted to play swing band music. The band was known as "Frivolous Motion" which is a well known legal term for time wasting endeavour. As time went on, the lawyers became fewer and musicians from many other professions joined. The motion has become less frivilous and it was decided to pursue forming a professional dance band in the tradtion of the great swing bands of the forties and fifties. While all understand that it is unlikely to become a vocation for any of us, the goal is to play the big band American song book and do it well enough to continue this great tradition into the new millenium.
